Udaipur: The District Environment Committee (DEC) organised a tree plantation drive on Wednesday at 4 p.m. near the Chauraha area, close to Disha Enterprises in RIICO Kaladwas, to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the ozone layer.
Institutions including Meera Girls College and Kidzee participated in the programme. A range of awareness activities, including quiz and poster competitions, a street play, face painting and essay writing, were organised, drawing participation from around 150–200 students. At the conclusion of the programme, prizes were presented to participants who secured first, second and third positions in the competitions.
A free vehicle pollution testing camp was also inaugurated on the occasion. The camp will continue until Friday, September 18, with testing available from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Fateh Sagar Pal, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Town Hall.
In addition, free pollution testing will be conducted from September 16 to 18, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., at various industrial establishments, including M/s Pyrotech, M/s Arcgate, M/s Tempsons, M/s Reliance Chemotex and M/s Celebration Mall.
To further strengthen public awareness, jingles and awareness messages will also be played on all municipal auto-tippers until Friday, September 18.
This year’s World Ozone Day theme is “Global Action for a Cooler Planet.” The programme, organised under the aegis of the District Environment Committee, aims to promote environmental conservation, expand green cover and encourage greater public awareness and participation in protecting the ozone layer.
