Udaipur : The Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangh, Udaipur, organised the seventh annual honour ceremony on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti at Mukherjee Chowk in Ward 22 on October 1.
Programme coordinator and Ward 22 Councillor Hidayat Tulla said that Gandhi Ji was remembered at Mukherjee Chowk for the first time as part of the annual event. Earlier, the programme was traditionally organised at the Gandhi statue in Malla Talai.
The programme began with a rendition of Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite bhajan, Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye. A total of 132 people were honoured for their outstanding contribution to human service and social welfare. The awardees included sanitation workers, NREGA workers, school students and members of the public from Ward 22 and neighbouring wards.
Students and representatives associated with Anjuman School, Mahila Mandal School, Shri Jain Agarwal, Computer Child Academy and Parshwanath Vidya Mandir also participated in the programme and were felicitated for their contributions and achievements.
The event was attended by Fatima Bohra, mother of Major Mustafa, who was martyred in the service of the nation, and Dharm Chand Nagauri, father of martyr Abhinav Nagauri. Other guests included District Congress Committee President Fateh Singh Rathore, former MLA Trilok Poorbiya, Rajesh Singhvi, Arun Tank, Sajid Khan, Mukhtar Ahmed Qureshi, Najma Mewafrosh, Raj Bahadur Talesara, Gopal Nagar and Navneet Agarwal.
The guests recalled significant moments from the lives of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri and highlighted their enduring values and contributions to the nation.
Haji Pyara Bhai, Shahzad Khan, Yasmin Banoo, Nadir, Kamal Chaudhary and Zafar Jilani were also present.
The participants pledged to incorporate Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of truth, non-violence and love, along with Lal Bahadur Shastri’s message of simple living and high thinking, into their lives.
Ward 22 Councillor Hidayat Tulla expressed gratitude to all guests, participants and awardees. The programme concluded with the National Anthem.
