Congress Leaders Pay Tribute to Gandhi and Shastri on Birth Anniversaries

Udaipur: Several programmes were organised by Congress leaders and workers to mark the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. The programmes were led by former district collector and Lok Sabha candidate Tarachand Meena and District Convenor of the Mahatma Gandhi Life Philosophy Committee, Pankaj Kumar Sharma.

The programme began at Shastri Circle, where floral tributes were offered at the statue of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. Participants formed a human chain and raised slogans of “Shastri Ji Amar Rahein.” Addressing the gathering, Tarachand Meena and Pankaj Kumar Sharma recalled Shastri’s simple lifestyle, commitment to public service and ideals.

The leaders then reached Gulab Bagh, where they paid floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and collectively recited “Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye.”

Paying tribute to Gandhi, Meena and Sharma said his principles of truth, non-violence, peace, cleanliness, self-reliance and social harmony continued to remain relevant for society and the nation.

Later, floral tributes were offered to portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri at the Congress Media Centre in Dhanmandi. On the occasion, Pankaj Kumar Sharma administered an oath to participants to refrain from what Gandhi described as the “Seven Social Sins.”

The seven principles cited were politics without principles, wealth without work, pleasure without conscience, education without character, commerce without morality, science without humanity, and worship without sacrifice. Those present pledged to incorporate these values into their personal lives and public conduct.

Ashok Tamboli, Firoz Ahmed Sheikh, Subhash Chittora, Kanhaiyalal Menaria and Sanjay Mandawani, along with Govind Saxena and several Congress office-bearers, workers and prominent citizens, were present during the programmes.
