Udaipur: Hindustan Zinc Limited conducted a month-long health awareness campaign across its operational areas in Rajasthan and Uttarakhand to mark National Nutrition Month (Poshan Maah). Organised under the company’s ‘Mera Gaon, Swasth Gaon’ (My Village, Healthy Village) initiative, the campaign focused on promoting better nutrition, maternal and child health, and preventive healthcare practices among rural communities.
During the month-long campaign, the company organised awareness sessions, counselling programmes, demonstrations and community activities across several villages, reaching more than 1,540 people. More than 1,061 women and adolescent girls participated in the sessions and received information on maternal health, adolescent health and the importance of balanced nutrition.
The campaign addressed key issues including nutrition for pregnant women, children and adolescent girls, prevention of anaemia, the importance of breastfeeding, hygiene and healthy lifestyle practices. Community members were encouraged to adopt nutritious food choices and healthier habits in their daily lives.
The initiative was implemented with the support of Panchayati Raj Institutions, Community Health Officers, Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), the Education Department, Anganwadi workers, women supervisors and other healthcare personnel. Their participation helped strengthen the outreach of government schemes and nutrition-awareness initiatives at the grassroots level.
Sessions conducted under the ‘Mera Gaon, Swasth Gaon’ initiative highlighted the importance of balanced diets, essential micronutrients, maternal nutrition and adolescent health. Special emphasis was placed on the first 1,000 days of a child’s life, covering care during pregnancy, iron and calcium supplementation, breastfeeding and appropriate nutrition for young children.
Special sessions for adolescent girls focused on the importance of consuming iron-rich foods and maintaining adequate nutrition during this crucial stage of growth and development. Participants were also encouraged to include locally available and seasonal foods in their diets, including millets, pulses, seasonal vegetables, fruits, milk and dairy products, nuts and seeds. They were advised to reduce the consumption of sugary beverages, packaged snacks and highly processed foods.
As part of the campaign, women, adolescent girls, children and other community members also took a nutrition pledge, committing to promote healthy eating habits and lifestyles within their families and communities. The Health Services Project further provided nutrition counselling, referrals and follow-up support alongside primary healthcare services.
