Sri Ganganagar: As part of the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt Sri Ganganagar’ campaign being conducted under the leadership of District Collector Dr. Amit Yadav and District Superintendent of Police Harishankar, a drug de-addiction awareness workshop was organised for students at GR Global Academy.
Addressing the students, Vikram Jyani from the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment said that substance abuse does not affect only an individual’s life; it also impacts the dreams, hopes and future of the entire family associated with that person.
He said India’s independence was achieved through immense sacrifice, with countless young people dedicating their lives to the country’s future. Citing the example of Bhagat Singh, he said young revolutionaries made the ultimate sacrifice so that future generations could live in a free India.
Jyani said the world views India’s youth as a source of potential, talent, knowledge and leadership. He highlighted the examples of great personalities who dedicated their youth not merely to themselves but to society and humanity. Bhagat Singh demonstrated the spirit of service to the nation, Swami Vivekananda inspired young people with confidence and strong character, while Gautama Buddha showed humanity the path of peace, compassion and righteous living.
He said these ideals teach that the purpose of youth is to contribute towards the progress of society. He called upon young people to become the strongest line of defence against substance abuse.
Jyani added that if a student takes a pledge to stay away from drugs and helps even one friend avoid substance abuse, it can potentially protect not just an individual but also the future of an entire family. Students were told that combating substance abuse is not solely the responsibility of the police or administration. It requires collective participation from families, schools, teachers, society and, most importantly, young people themselves.
During the workshop, Praveen Kumar and Sahiram administered a pledge to the students, encouraging them to stay away from substance abuse and spread awareness among young people in their surroundings.
Students were urged to build their identity not through drugs, but through their talent, hard work, character and achievements.
School Principal Sushma Poonia said there is a need for every parent to understand their children’s dreams, for teachers to guide students not only through the curriculum but also towards the right path in life, and for every young person to take responsibility for supporting their friends.
