Udaipur: Udaipur has added a major advanced ophthalmic facility with the introduction of Rajasthan’s first ‘Unity 4D Phaco’ technology at Alakh Nayan Mandir. The nearly ₹2-crore state-of-the-art system has been installed to provide greater control and precision during cataract surgery, particularly in cases involving dense and hard cataracts.
Medical Director of Alakh Nayan Mandir, Dr L.S. Jhala, said the decision to introduce the technology was taken after an extensive evaluation of the system at an international ophthalmology conference in London. During the conference, Dr Jhala personally observed and evaluated the machine’s functioning and interacted with international eye-care specialists regarding its clinical applications, surgical performance and potential advantages.
Following the technical assessment and discussions with experts, the institution placed an order for the system and brought the technology to Udaipur.
Advanced Fluid and Pressure Control
According to Dr Jhala, the Unity 4D Phaco system incorporates several advanced technologies, including Intelligent Fluidics, Intelligent IOP and Intelligent Sentry. These systems are designed to assist surgeons in maintaining better control of fluid movement and intraocular pressure during cataract procedures.
Such control can be particularly important while operating on dense or hard cataracts, where surgeons may require greater precision and stability during different stages of the procedure.
The technology represents another step towards strengthening specialised eye-care facilities in southern Rajasthan. With the new system available locally, patients requiring advanced cataract procedures can access the facility in Udaipur rather than travelling to larger metropolitan centres for specialised treatment.
A Step Forward for Regional Eye Care
The introduction of the Unity 4D Phaco system is expected to benefit patients from Udaipur and neighbouring districts across southern Rajasthan, while also strengthening the region's capabilities in modern cataract surgery.
The initiative reflects Alakh Nayan Mandir's focus on adopting newer surgical technologies after evaluating their clinical utility and practical application in ophthalmic care.
