Complex Liver Cancer Surgery Successfully Performed at Geetanjali Hospital, 70-Year-Old Patient Recovers

Udaipur: Overcoming multiple surgical challenges, including a cancerous liver tumour measuring more than 10 centimetres, its proximity to major blood vessels and bile ducts, and the patient's advanced age of 70 years, Dr Hemant Jain, Gastrointestinal and Liver Surgeon at Geetanjali Hospital, and his team successfully performed a complex liver surgery. The procedure involved removing the cancerous portion while preserving the remaining liver function and protecting vital blood vessels.

The patient underwent a central hepatectomy, a specialised procedure in which the cancer-affected central portion of the liver is removed. Due to the tumour's location, the affected portion of the hepatic vein also had to be removed along with the tumour, while the portal vein was preserved. Following surgery, the patient was kept under specialised medical supervision. After showing satisfactory improvement, the patient was discharged from the hospital in a stable condition.

Multidisciplinary Team Played a Key Role

The complex procedure was supported by a multidisciplinary medical team. Dr Anuj Jain from the anaesthesia team, Dr Bhuvana and Dr Harikant from the surgical team, along with operation theatre staff Jitendra, Praveen, Mukesh and Arvind, played important roles in the successful outcome.

The patient's family expressed gratitude to Dr Hemant Jain and the entire Geetanjali Hospital medical team for the treatment, dedicated care and continuous medical support.

Precision and Planning Essential in Complex Liver Surgery

Dr Hemant Jain explained that surgery for large liver tumours requires not only the complete removal of the cancerous tissue but also careful preservation of the remaining liver function and major blood vessels. Precise surgical planning, technical expertise and effective coordination among specialists are essential for managing such complex cases.

Early Medical Consultation Can Help Identify Warning Signs

Dr Jain urged people not to ignore symptoms such as persistent abdominal pain, swelling in the abdomen, unexplained weight loss, or yellowing of the eyes and skin. Timely medical evaluation and consultation with a specialist can help identify underlying conditions and facilitate appropriate treatment.
