Udaipur: A three-day workshop on the traditional art of Lippan was organised by the Department of Apparel and Textile Science, College of Community and Applied Sciences, Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT), Udaipur, from September 28 to 30.
Lippan art is a popular traditional decorative art form from Gujarat’s Kutch region, known for creating attractive geometric and folk-inspired patterns using clay and mirrors. The workshop aimed to familiarise students with India’s traditional art and craft heritage while enhancing their creativity, artistic expression and practical skills.
Around 40 students participated in the workshop and received hands-on training in the basic techniques of Lippan art, design development, mirror decoration and its application to various decorative products.
Dr Sarla Lakhawat, Dean, College of Community and Applied Sciences, appreciated the department’s initiative and congratulated the entire team. She said the workshop was a successful example of bringing together tradition, creativity and skill development.
The workshop was successfully coordinated by Dr Rupal Babel, Head of the Department. She said such workshops help students connect with India’s rich cultural heritage while encouraging creativity, innovation and practical skill development.
Members of the organising committee, including Bhoomika, Kritika, Sneha, Daksha, Namrata, Bhavna, Aarti and Maldini, provided active support in conducting the workshop successfully.
