Udaipur: A two-week collaborative workshop jointly organised by The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), New York, and the City Palace Museum, Udaipur, concluded on October 2. Held from September 21 to October 2, 2026, the workshop brought together the education, conservation and imaging teams of the two institutions, providing a platform for the exchange of knowledge, expertise and professional experience.
During the workshop, the team from The Met met Dr Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, the 77th Shriji of Mewar and Chairman and Managing Trustee of the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation. Discussions focused on opportunities for future collaboration in the fields of art, heritage, collections, research and conservation.
Dr Mayank Gupta, CEO of the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, said the workshop marked the second phase of the collaborative initiative between the two institutions, following the first workshop held in November 2025.
The Met team comprised Juan Trujillo, Managing Photographer; Isaac Jonas, Imaging Specialist; Savita Moni, Manager, International Education Programs; Yuki Chock, Conservator; and Eleni Zaras, Programme Coordinator, International Initiatives.
Focus on Technical Training, Visitor Engagement and Future Collaboration
The workshop included hands-on training in museum imaging, covering both studio and on-site photography techniques. Participants worked on various methods for high-quality object arrangement and imaging of a diverse range of artefacts, including paintings, silver objects, textiles, swords, matchlock firearms, armour, murals and glass inlay work.
The sessions also focused on post-processing and advanced digital imaging techniques, aimed at enhancing the quality and accessibility of the museum's visual documentation.
The education sessions further contributed to the development of a more inclusive and comprehensive visitor guide. The initiative is expected to strengthen the City Palace Museum's imaging capabilities while making the museum experience more informative, accessible and engaging for diverse audiences.
The collaborative workshop represents a significant step towards strengthening institutional ties and creating opportunities for continued knowledge-sharing and professional collaboration between The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the City Palace Museum, Udaipur.
