New Delhi, April : Hindustan Zinc Limited, a Vedanta Group company and one of the world’s top five silver producers, has been recognized as India’s Largest Integrated Silver Manufacturer 2024 at the India Silver Conference 2025 held in Udaipur, Rajasthan. This prestigious honor underlines the company’s operational excellence, strategic vision, and ability to support the rising global demand for silver in the clean energy transition.
At its pavilion, Hindustan Zinc showcased LBMA-certified 99.99% pure silver bars of 30 kg and 1 kg, along with Galena ore, the primary mineral for silver, extracted from its renowned Sindesar Khurd mine—ranked among the top five silver-producing mines globally.
The conference commenced with a keynote address by CEO Arun Misra, who highlighted silver’s increasing importance as an energy transition metal. Used extensively in solar energy, AI, nanotechnology, biotech, high-end electronics, silver jewelry, and tableware, silver’s superior conductivity and antimicrobial properties make it indispensable to next-generation technologies—including photovoltaics, electric mobility, medical diagnostics, and smart consumer devices.
Since the Government of India’s disinvestment in 2002 and subsequent acquisition by Vedanta, Hindustan Zinc has achieved a remarkable 20-fold increase in silver production. Before this, India was largely dependent on silver imports, making this one of the most successful privatizations in Indian history.
Speaking at the event, Arun Misra said, “We take immense pride in being a global silver production leader. With silver prices hitting record highs, our strategic capabilities empower us to cater to increasing demand. At our Pantnagar unit, our refined silver is produced using 100% renewable energy, reinforcing our leadership in sustainable silver manufacturing.”
The event featured a panel discussion where Chief Marketing & Sales Officer Vijay Murthy emphasized silver’s evolving role in critical industrial applications. Hindustan Zinc’s pavilion—titled “At the Core of the Clean Energy”—was a major highlight. Attendees were impressed by its immersive 3D experience booth, which provided virtual tours of the world’s largest underground zinc mine in Bhilwara and the world’s largest lead-zinc smelter in Chittorgarh, both located in Rajasthan.
The company also exhibited silver powder adhering to international quality benchmarks. Its Pantnagar metal plant is recognized under the London Bullion Market Association’s Responsible Silver Guidance Framework, reflecting ethical sourcing, advanced technology, and a sustainable value chain. Recognized by the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024 as the world’s most sustainable metal and mining company, Hindustan Zinc is setting new standards in environmental and social governance (ESG).
As the world’s largest integrated zinc producer with a 77% share in India’s primary zinc market, Hindustan Zinc supplies to over 40 countries. It also pioneered EcoZinc, Asia’s first low-carbon green zinc brand, manufactured entirely through renewable energy. Furthermore, the company is 2.41 times water-positive and is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 or earlier.
As a leading Energy Transition Metal Company, Hindustan Zinc is at the forefront of providing critical metals for a sustainable, low-carbon future.
