Tiny Coins Hold Secrets of History: Chunnilal Garasiya

Udaipur,  The three-day international symposium on numismatics, jointly organized by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Bhupal Nobles University, and the Academy of Numismatics and Sigillography, Indore, concluded with extensive deliberations and a city tour of Udaipur’s historical sites by historians and numismatists on its final day.

Addressing the valedictory ceremony as the chief guest, Rajya Sabha MP Shri Chunnilal Garasiya remarked, “Among the many sources that help us understand history, coins hold a unique and important place. Though small in size, these coins contain within them the hidden secrets of history. Discovering and decoding these unknown currencies is the true task of numismatists. The organization of such an international symposium on an untouched subject by Bhupal Nobles University is truly commendable.”

Former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests of Rajasthan and thinker Dr. Venkatesh Sharma, attending as special guest, said, “A seminar on coins—such a unique and unconventional topic—is indeed praiseworthy. There's a pressing need to explore coinage using modern research techniques. The youth should take interest in this field and bring forth the significance of Indian coinage to the global stage. Academic events like these introduce society to unexplored themes.”

Chairperson of Bhupal Nobles University, Colonel Prof. Shiv Singh Sarangdevot, in his presidential address, said that the study of coins is a specialized discipline and a vital source to understand the cultural traditions of India. The Department of History organizing such a scholarly gathering and fostering in-depth discussions on coinage is a commendable initiative, and such events must continue in the future.

Welcoming the guests, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Dr. Shilpa Rathore, said the international seminar has concluded with meaningful insights and outcomes on the topic of coinage.

Renowned numismatist Dr. Shashikant Bhatt shared his reflections on the three-day event, noting that the symposium offered new perspectives and significant findings.

Organizing secretary Dr. Pankaj Ameta presented a detailed report of all sessions and activities, revealing that over 80 research papers were presented, leading to substantial discussion on historical findings through coin studies. Dr. Prashant Kulkarni and Girish Sharma also shared their experiences during the event.

The dais was graced by Mohabbat Singh Rathore, Managing Director of Bhupal Nobles Institution; Rajendra Singh Jhala, Joint Secretary of Vidyapracharini Sabha; Shakti Singh Ranawat, Finance Minister; Executive members Kamleshwar Singh Sarangdevot, Kuldeep Singh Chundawat, and Mahendra Singh Rathore.

Also in attendance were Dileep Singh Dudod, a member of the Vidyapracharini Sabha; prominent numismatists from across the country; and Dean of PG Studies, Dr. Premsingh Rawalot.

Dr. Jyotiraditya Singh Bhati, Associate Dean, delivered the vote of thanks, while the program was skillfully compered by Dr. Anita Rathore.
