A Powerful Start to the National Mime Festival

nder the joint aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, Rainbow Society, Jaipur, and IIS University, the National Mime Festival commenced with grandeur this evening at the A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Auditorium, Mansarovar. This festival is dedicated to the renowned educationist, visionary, and Chancellor of IIS University, Dr. Ashok Gupta.

The inaugural day witnessed exceptional performances by artists from West Bengal, Assam, Maharashtra, Delhi, and Rajasthan, who captivated the audience with their unique talent. The silent play "Euthanasia", conceptualized and directed by Siraj Ahmed Bhati of Rainbow Society, Jaipur, featured Vichitra Singh, Priyanka Chandani, Ramkesh Meena, and Ruel Bhati, whose poignant performances left a deep impact. Udaipur’s Martand Foundation artists, Kiran Janve and Vilas Janve, delighted the audience with their humorous and satirical mime act, "Hurdle Full Honeymoon".

Delhi-based artist Preeti Gupta received appreciation for her compelling portrayal of episodes from the life of Gautam Buddha, while Assam’s Minanka Deka and Deepak Prasad Shah from Nirbak Institution won over the audience with their acts "Temple Visit," "Letter to God," and "I Love You."

Honoring Eminent Guests

The distinguished guest of the event, Padma Shri Niranjan Goswami, a legendary theatre director, was honored with a traditional turban by IIS University Vice-Chancellor Dr. T.N. Mathur, Trustees Amit Gupta and Sumit Gupta, Registrar Dr. Rakhi Gupta, and Festival Director Siraj Ahmed Bhati.

Learning from the Masters

On March 16, the second day of the festival, mime workshops will be conducted by eminent artists, including Guru Padma Shri Niranjan Goswami from Kolkata, Kunal Motling from Mumbai, Suvendu Mukhopadhyay from West Bengal, Vichitra Singh and Asif Sher Ali from Jaipur, Minanka Deka from Assam, and Vilas Janve from Udaipur. Jaipur’s renowned choreographer Ghanshyam Mahawar will train students in rhythmic movement techniques.

Notably, students participating in these workshops will also get the opportunity to perform alongside the artists in the evening, allowing them to gain hands-on stage experience.

This National Mime Festival is more than just a theatrical event—it is a powerful artistic movement, bringing together emerging and veteran performers to highlight the expressive strength of silent communication.
