Udaipur – The Ritu Vasant festival, organized by the West Zone Cultural Centre, will be held at Shilpgram from February 28 to March 2. This three-day festival will be a special attraction for art and culture enthusiasts.
Renowned Hindustani classical vocalist Pandit Rajendra Vaishnav from Jodhpur will mesmerize the audience with his melodious voice, while Kathak exponent Shama Bhate and her group will enchant spectators with their rhythmic and expressive performances. This event not only celebrates the arrival of the spring season but also showcases the rich traditions of Indian classical art.
The festival will be held daily at 7:00 PM at the open-air theatre of Shilpgram, with free entry for all.
Director of the West Zone Cultural Centre, Furqan Khan, stated that Pandit Rajendra Vaishnav belongs to the prestigious Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana. His singing is known for its purity of ragas, intricate taans, and refined aalap. He has performed at renowned music festivals in India and abroad, receiving great appreciation. His expertise in Raga Marwa, Darbari, and Bhairavi has earned him special recognition.
Shama Bhate, popularly known as Shama Tai, is a distinguished Kathak dancer, teacher, and choreographer. She began learning Kathak at the age of four and has been actively performing for over 40 years. Her academy ‘Nadroop’, based in Pune, continues to preserve and promote Kathak traditions. A disciple of Pt. Birju Maharaj and Pt. Mohanrao Kallianpurkar, she emphasizes rhythm and grace in her performances. Some of her notable choreographies include ‘Trishul’ and ‘Samvad’. She has been honored with several prestigious awards.
