141st Birth Anniversary of Maharana Bhupal Singh Celebrated

Udaipur | The 141st birth anniversary of Maharana Bhupal Singh, the 74th Ekling Diwan of Mewar, was celebrated by the Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation, Udaipur. Maharana Bhupal Singh was born in Vikram Samvat 1940, on Falgun Krishna Ekadashi (1884). A floral tribute was offered at his portrait in the Rai Angan of the City Palace Museum, followed by a prayer ceremony and the lighting of lamps. Historical information about Maharana Bhupal Singh was also displayed for the visiting tourists.

Dr. Mayank Gupta, CEO of the Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation, Udaipur, mentioned that Maharana Bhupal Singh ascended the throne on 25th May 1930, Vikram Samvat 1987, Jyestha Vad 12. Upon his coronation, he immediately pardoned the debts of the people and landowners. Maharana Bhupal Singh was a staunch believer in the welfare of his subjects and always worked for their progress and betterment.

He initiated numerous public welfare projects. To provide loans to farmers at low interest, a fund named ‘Krishi Sudhar’ (Agriculture Reform) was established. He also set up an agricultural farm in Udaipur to promote advancements in farming. Additionally, in Bhilwara, a major trading center in Mewar, he established a market called ‘Bhupalganj.’ To boost employment and income in the state, factories were established in Badi Sadri and Chittorgarh, and permission was granted for the establishment of such factories in other regions, which led to the opening of factories in places like Jahazpur, Asind, Sanwad, and Kankroli.

He founded a municipal corporation for the cleanliness of the city and started an electricity supply system. Several dispensaries were opened for the treatment of the sick, and an Intermediate College was established in Udaipur for higher education after high school. Furthermore, in the interest of the nation, Maharana Bhupal Singh dedicated the sovereignty of Mewar to the democratic Constitution of independent India. This gesture was widely welcomed across the country. Maharana Bhupal Singh had the honor of being the first and last Maharaj of independent India.
