Udaipur: A 15-day theatre workshop titled ‘Rangmanch’ was inaugurated on Tuesday, organized jointly by the Western Regional Cultural Centre Udaipur and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Mohanlal Sukhadia University. The workshop, which will run until 25th February, has active participation from university students and will conclude with a theatrical presentation at the Darpan Auditorium in Shilpgram. The workshop will explore various aspects of theatre, including acting, stage design, lighting and sound, scriptwriting, and other technical elements, providing students an opportunity to identify their interests.
The workshop will be held at the Art College from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM every day until 24th February.
The program was chaired by Prof. Digvijay Bhatnagar, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Art College, while Prof. Hemant Dwivedi, former Dean and Director of the Faculty of Visual Arts, was the Chief Guest. The workshop mentors include theatre artist Vishal Bhatt, associated with Tamasha Theatre in Jaipur, who has written and directed several plays, and Asif Sher Khan, a specialist in 'Mime' acting with extensive experience in training for various workshops. Bhatt discussed the workshop and theatre, highlighting the differences between film and theatre.
Prof. Hemant Dwivedi spoke about the role of theatre in life and encouraged students and faculty members to participate in such theatre workshops. He also emphasized the need for a drama department at the university and expressed his intention to establish it. Prof. Digvijay Bhatnagar, in his presidential address, discussed the role of theatre in personality development. He mentioned that life and theatre are not separate, as we play different roles in various situations and capacities.
Program Officer from the Western Regional Cultural Centre, Siddhant Bhatnagar, along with Mukul, also graced the occasion. The presence of faculty members from the Science and Arts Colleges added to the program's charm. Dr. Bhanupriya Rohila, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, delivered the vote of thanks. The event was coordinated by Dr. Shahid Parvez from the Department of Visual Arts and Mr. Mahendra Singh Purohit from the Department of English. The program was conducted by Ms. Niveera Soni.
