Congress Spokesperson Attacks Government Over Expatriation of Indian Immigrants from the US

Udaipur: After the images of 205 illegal Indian immigrants being deported from the United States while handcuffed surfaced, Pankaj Sharma, General Secretary and Spokesperson of the Pradesh Congress Committee, launched a strong attack on the BJP government. Sharma termed the incident as "tragic and humiliating" and questioned the government's silence on the matter.

Sharma expressed his sorrow upon seeing the pictures of Indian immigrants being handcuffed and humiliated during their deportation, stating that as an Indian, he felt deeply distressed. He recalled the incident in December 2013 when Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade was handcuffed in the US, and at that time, then-Foreign Secretary Sujata Singh had strongly protested before the US Ambassador Nancy Powell. The government had responded sharply to the incident.

Leaders like Meira Kumar, Sushil Kumar Shinde, and Rahul Gandhi had refused to meet the US Congressional delegation (George Holding, Pete Olson, David Schweikert, Rob Woodall, and Madeleine Bordallo) during their visit to India.

Sharma said that India’s diplomats in the US should raise this issue seriously, and the government must respond quickly. He sarcastically remarked, "A lot was said about how Modi and Donald Trump are the best of friends. Then why has the Modi government not responded to this incident?"

Sharma also expressed displeasure over the attitude of the US administration, calling the treatment of the immigrants inhumane. He asked, "Why are Indian immigrants being treated this way, with handcuffs and shackles? Is this a civilized way?"

Sharma strongly reacted to the incident and demanded that the government take concrete steps to protect the dignity of Indian immigrants.
