PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme Taking Shape Under Chief Minister’s Guidance

Sri Ganganagar: The ambitious initiative of Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme, is rapidly being implemented under the leadership and guidance of Honorable Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma. The aim is to make the state surplus in electricity production and provide 24-hour free electricity to households. Thousands of rooftop solar systems have already been installed across the state to bring solar energy to every home.
**PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme**
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet has approved the PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme to install rooftop solar energy systems and provide free electricity up to 300 units per month for one crore households. The scheme provides a subsidy of 60% of the system cost for a 2-kilowatt capacity system and an additional 40% for a 2-3 kilowatt capacity system. The subsidy is capped at a 3-kilowatt system. Based on current standard prices, the subsidy amounts to ₹30,000 for a 1-kilowatt system, ₹60,000 for a 2-kilowatt system, and ₹78,000 for a 3-kilowatt or higher system. Under this scheme, participating households will not only save on electricity bills but also enable DISCOMs to earn additional income through the sale of surplus electricity. A 3-kilowatt system can generate over 300 units of electricity per month for a household.
**Benefit from PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme**
To apply for the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, applicants must own a house with a roof suitable for installing solar panels. The house must also have a valid electricity connection, and the applicant should not be benefiting from any other solar panel subsidy. Families joining the scheme will be able to apply for a subsidy through the national portal and select a suitable vendor for installing rooftop solar panels. The portal will assist families by providing relevant information about system size, benefit calculations, and vendor ratings, helping them in their decision-making process. Since the launch of the scheme, the government has initiated an extensive campaign to raise awareness and collect applications from interested families. **Thousands of Families in Sri Ganganagar District Have Registered**
Notably, under the PM Surya Ghar initiative, which aims to bring solar energy to every home through rooftop solar systems, 10,313 applicants in Sri Ganganagar district have already registered. Of these, 4,260 have selected vendors, and rooftop solar systems have already been installed in the homes of 1,760 applicants.
