Two-Day Training Program for Agricultural Extension Officers on Advanced Crop Diversification Strategies Begins

Udaipur: A two-day training program for agricultural extension officers on "Advanced Crop Diversification Strategies to Enhance Sustainable Agriculture" was inaugurated under the Crop Diversification Project at the Directorate of Research, Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur. The program will include discussions on sustainable agriculture and innovative approaches to crop diversification, led by agricultural officers, researchers, and experts. The training aims to address growing challenges such as climate change, soil erosion, and food security.

The main goal of the program is to equip officers with advanced knowledge and strategies, enabling them to promote crop diversification and contribute to increasing agricultural productivity while ensuring environmental sustainability. During the opening ceremony, Dr. Arvind Verma, Director of Research, welcomed the participants and shared the objectives of the training. He emphasized the importance of adopting diversified crop systems, which would improve soil health, reduce dependence on single-crop farming, and increase farmers' income. He also discussed advanced weed management techniques for crop diversification in detail.

Dr. Hari Singh, Project In-charge, highlighted the crucial role of crop diversification in adopting sustainable agricultural practices. He stressed the need to integrate traditional agricultural knowledge with modern scientific techniques to make agricultural systems more capable and resilient. Dr. H.L. Bairwa, Associate Professor (Horticulture), discussed environmentally friendly and profitable crop diversification in horticulture. He informed farmers about the economic and ecological benefits of integrating various crops with horticultural crops and outlined ten dimensions of fruit production that can increase farmers' income and employment.

Dr. Latika Vyas, Associate Professor (Agricultural Extension), discussed the important role of Agricultural Science Centers in promoting crop diversification. She provided practical training on various methods of effective technology transfer, enabling officers to inspire farmers to adopt innovations and sustainable agricultural practices.

Soil scientist Dr. Subhash Meena, present at the event, stated that growing the same crop repeatedly depletes soil nutrients, negatively affecting productivity. He emphasized crop rotation, mixed cropping systems, and the use of organic fertilizers.

During the two-day training program, renowned agricultural scientists and experts will conduct technical sessions, offering practical training and lectures on climate adaptation, soil health management, integrated farming systems, policy frameworks, and government initiatives to the extension officers.
