Udaipur. A comprehensive workshop on Cyber Security was organized by The Institution of Engineers India, Udaipur Local Centre. The event began with a welcome address by the president of the organization, Engr. Purushottam Paliwal, who explained that cyber security is the practice of protecting computer systems and networks from theft, damage, or unauthorized access to their data. The main objectives of cyber security include protecting sensitive data, ensuring business continuity, preventing financial loss, and safeguarding national security.
Engr. Piyush Javeria, the honorary secretary of the Udaipur Local Centre of The Institution of Engineers India, shed light on effective strategies to combat cyber threats and the steps being taken by the government. He emphasized that with the increase in digital transactions and online activities, cyber security has become extremely important. The workshop is a significant step toward raising awareness and creating a secure digital environment.
Various aspects of cyber security were discussed during the event, including phishing, ransomware, data privacy, password management, and ways to prevent cybercrime. Experts also shared practical tips on protecting against cyber attacks.
The keynote speaker, Rahul Rathore (Data Governance and Privacy Officer, STL Digital Vedanta Group), highlighted the major types of cyber frauds, such as banking fraud, job fraud, shopping fraud, OTP scams, video call scams, and deepfake frauds. He stressed the importance of antivirus software, password security, computer locks, firewalls, and privacy settings. He also advised avoiding charging mobile phones with public chargers and staying away from pirated software.
Dr. Ashok Jetawat, Director of IICE Institute, Udaipur, explained that cyber security is essential for protecting data from theft and misuse, as well as for safeguarding systems from viruses. He mentioned that hackers typically gain access to computers by obtaining administrative control, cracking passwords, and committing cyber crimes. He also noted that India ranks 10th in cyber crimes globally.
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks from Engr. Piyush Javeria, the honorary secretary.
