Udaipur, The 24th Annual National Workshop on "Mechanization for Animal Husbandry" under the All India Coordinated Research Project commenced on Tuesday at the Directorate of Research Auditorium. Hosted by Maharana Pratap Agricultural and Technology University, the workshop is being attended by over 100 agricultural scientists, engineers, and researchers from across the country, including representatives from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi.
In the inaugural session, Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Commissioner of Animal Husbandry, Government of India, emphasized the need for mechanization in various sectors of animal husbandry, including dairy and poultry. He stated that mechanization should be prioritized in these fields for India to keep pace with the global standards. He also mentioned that 70% of workers in animal husbandry are women, and mechanization could significantly reduce human labor, freeing it for other productive uses.
Dr. S.N. Jha, Deputy Director General (Engineering) at ICAR, New Delhi, highlighted the need for mechanization in the overall agricultural sector and encouraged scientists to stay updated with the latest developments to tackle the fast-paced global growth.
Dr. Ajeet Kumar Karnataka, Vice Chancellor, argued that water, forest, land, and climate are not solely the property of humans but belong to all living creatures. He emphasized that human domination of nature must end to maintain ecological balance.
Various research institutes, including ICAR-CIAE Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), MPUAT Udaipur (Rajasthan), GBPUAT Pantnagar (Uttarakhand), and others, were represented at the workshop. During the event, a book titled Modern Animal Husbandry and Management and pamphlets on animal feed management and advanced animal-driven agricultural tools were also released.
