Over 50 Reliance Foundation Athletes to Compete in National Games

Dehradun: Over 50 athletes associated with the Reliance Foundation will compete in the 38th edition of the National Games being held in Uttarakhand. These athletes will participate in eight sports, including athletics, boxing, badminton, shooting, judo, weightlifting, wrestling, and table tennis, aiming to win medals. The games, scheduled from January 28 to February 14, are expected to witness several national records being broken.

Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain, representing the Reliance Foundation, will participate in a competition for the first time after the Paris Olympics. Alongside her, emerging judo sensation Himanshi Tokas, who recently won the African Cup and ranked in the top 5 of the World Junior Rankings, will also be competing for medals.

In athletics, several national record holders associated with the Foundation will compete, including Jyoti Yarraji (100m hurdles), Tejas Shirse (110m hurdles), Manikanta Hoblidhar (100m), Amalan Borgohain (200m), and Rozie Meena Paulraj (pole vault). Rising stars such as Animesh Kujur (India's fastest sprinter in 2024), DM Jayaram, Bapi Hansda, and Sakshi Chavan will also showcase their talents.

James Hillier, the Athletics Director of the Reliance Foundation, expressed excitement about the National Games, saying, "We are really excited about the National Games. This is an opportunity for our athletes to test their fitness and evaluate how well they have been training. We expect our athletes to win many medals. This year is especially important as most of our athletes are preparing for the Asian Championships in 2025."

In badminton, Anupama Upadhyay, Unnati Hooda, and Shriyanshi Wali Shetty will compete for the women’s singles title. Table tennis legend G Sathiyan will participate in the men’s singles event. In shooting, double Asian Games medalist Palak Gulia (10m air pistol) and current national champion Aashi Chokse (10m air rifle and 50m rifle 3 positions) will be in the race for medals.
