Complicated Surgery at Geetanjali Hospital Saves Mother and Newborn
A couple from Bhilwara sought medical attention at Geetanjali Hospital due to a severe health crisis. The pregnant woman’s blood pressure had skyrocketed to 220/160, prompting local doctors to refer her urgently to the hospital. Upon arrival, specialist doctors assessed the critical situation and decided to perform immediate surgery.
The medical team, including Pediatric Surgeon Dr. Apoorv Singh, Neonatologist Dr. Sushil Gupta, Obstetrician and Gynecologist Dr. Bhamini Jakhetia, along with the anesthesia team and NICU staff, worked tirelessly to treat the mother and baby.
Dr. Bhamini Jakhetia explained that the woman, seven months pregnant, was suffering from dangerously high blood pressure, leading to severe complications and unbearable headaches. An emergency operation was performed, which was highly risky for both the mother and the baby but was successfully completed.
The newborn weighed only 900 grams and was immediately placed on a ventilator. Neonatologist Dr. Sushil Gupta and his team began the baby’s treatment. A week after birth, the baby developed intestinal complications and was diagnosed with a condition called Meconium Ileus, which obstructs the passage of stool. Pediatric Surgeon Dr. Apoorv Singh performed surgery to remove the blockage and created a stoma for feeding. Due to the baby’s low weight, specialized NICU care was provided, including stoma feeding. Once the baby reached 2.5 kg, a second successful surgery was performed to close the stoma.
Under Dr. Sushil Gupta’s supervision, the baby received post-operative care, including nutritional support and comprehensive examinations of the eyes, ears, brain, and other organs. Currently, the baby is healthy, breastfeeding, and gaining weight steadily.
The couple, who became parents after a decade-long wait, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and staff of Geetanjali Hospital, calling the experience nothing short of a miracle.
