Udaipur, January 6: The three-day Udaipur Tales International Storytelling Festival will be organized by Maa My Anchor Foundation from January 10 to 12 at Park Exotica Resort, opposite Darpan Auditorium, Shilpgram Road. Preparations are in full swing to position Rajasthan on the global cultural map through this annual storytelling festival.

Salil Bhandari, co-founder of the foundation, highlighted that this event is not just a celebration of oral storytelling but also a cultural initiative to establish Udaipur as the storytelling capital of India. Co-founder Sushmita Singha, elaborating on the festival's significance, said, "Udaipur Tales is not limited to the stories narrated during these three days. It is a revival of Rajasthan's tradition where oral storytelling was an integral part of Indian culture. This festival is making Udaipur a center to connect the world with the magic of oral tales."

To breathe life into this ancient art form, renowned dastangoi artist Syed Sahil Agha, who has been associated with the festival for years, will play a vital role. In 2020, during the Udaipur Storytelling Festival, he introduced a unique style called Jumlebazi, inspired by 13th-century Sufi poet Amir Khusro. This style involves crafting impromptu stories based on words suggested by the audience, creating a deeply engaging experience.

This year, the festival will feature celebrated storytellers like Divya Nidhi Sharma, Devdutt Pattanaik, Fozia Dastango, Makrand Deshpande, Ajay Kumar, Ahmed Faraz, Debjani, Shweta Nadkarni, Shilpa Mehta, Shona Malhotra, Aditya Kothakota, and Kahaniwala Rajat, who will present their distinctive tales. Additionally, a performance by the famous qawwals, Qutbi Brothers, will enhance the event's charm. International storytellers from France and Latin America will also participate, adding a global flavor to the festival.

Salil Bhandari shared that the art of storytelling is not confined to the festival. Like every year, this year too, storytelling competitions were organized for students from Vidya Bhawan School and other private schools in Udaipur. Over 120 students participated enthusiastically, and the winners will be felicitated during the event. For the first time, a unique initiative saw a storytelling competition held at Udaipur Central Jail for inmates. Witnessing their hidden talents and hearing their untold stories was truly a heartwarming experience. The winning inmates will also be recognized during the festival.

An Invitation to Be a Part of History
During the festival, Udaipur will transform into a cultural hub where stories from across the country and abroad will come to life. With its growing international acclaim, Udaipur Tales is set to establish Rajasthan as a prime destination for storytelling. Residents eagerly await this annual event, which promises not just entertainment but a deeply enriching experience that will resonate in hearts and minds for years to come. This platform will serve as a confluence of stories from Rajasthan, India, and the world.
