Tributes Paid on the 150th Birth Anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda

Udaipur,  The 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda was observed as Tribal Pride Day on Friday at the University Convocation Hall of Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University). The event featured a floral tribute to a portrait of Birsa Munda, followed by a seminar in his honor.

Presiding over the seminar, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shiv Singh Sarangdevot stated that Birsa Munda’s slogan of Jal, Jungle, Zameen (Water, Forest, Land) symbolized his belief in the right of every class of society to live with dignity on this motherland. He highlighted that Birsa Munda was a youthful freedom fighter and a tribal community leader who led movements against the feudal system. He fought against the zamindari system and British colonial rule. Birsa also led a large-scale religious movement against British missionaries and forced conversions, which became known as Ulgulan.

Prof. Sarangdevot further emphasized that Birsa Munda worked extensively for the betterment of water, forests, land, and the tribal community. His message was clear: "Victory comes through struggle, not surrender." He also stated that culture is not static but an evolving journey, and it is essential to adapt to the changing world while preserving and protecting our traditions.

"Tribal Pride Day is a day to honor the courage of our traditional communities, their unique perspectives, and their contributions to our cultural mosaic," said Prof. Sarangdevot. He acknowledged the immense contributions of tribal communities to the nation's prosperity through their customs, craftsmanship, and deep respect for nature.
