World Diabetes Day: A Walkathon to Promote Awareness on Prevention of Diabetes and Stroke*

Udaipur,  Due to changing lifestyles, diseases like diabetes and stroke are increasing rapidly. To address this issue, Pacific Medical College and Hospital, in collaboration with the Indian Stroke Association, World Stroke Organization, and Stroke Support Group Udaipur, organized a "Run for Diabetes" and "Mission for Brain Attack" campaign on World Diabetes Day at Fateh Sagar. The event aimed to spread awareness about the prevention of diabetes and stroke among the general public.

The "Run for Diabetes" was flagged off by Rahul Agarwal, Chairman of PMC, Dr. Nirmal Surya, President of World Stroke Organization and Neurologist, Dr. Atulabh Vajpayee, Stroke Specialist, Dr. V.K. Goyal, Head of Medicine Department, Dr. Girish Verma, Dr. Jagdish Vishnoi, and Dr. Veerendra Chaudhary. Chairman Rahul Agarwal emphasized that diabetes is a disease whose symptoms are often unknown to the public. Due to the lack of timely tests, the disease often goes undiagnosed. To raise awareness, PMC regularly organizes such events to benefit the common people.

During the "Mission for Brain Attack" campaign, Dr. Nirmal Surya highlighted the importance of spreading awareness about stroke through the "Each One Teach One" theme. He urged everyone to educate at least one person about the signs of stroke, as early detection can help prevent death and disability due to strokes.

The campaign also included rallies, talks, and quiz competitions across various cities to raise awareness about stroke. In Udaipur, the focus was on teaching the public to recognize stroke symptoms using the "BE-FAST" method, which can help save lives and prevent disability.

Dr. Atulabh Vajpayee also announced that an MoU between World Neuro Rehab Federation and Pacific Medical University has been signed, aiming to introduce a fellowship in Neuro Rehab. This initiative will provide world-class facilities to patients suffering from stroke and neuro rehabilitation in Rajasthan and enhance the expertise of local professionals in the field.
