Engineer Purushottam Paliwal Takes Over as President, Engineer Piyush Javeria as Honorary Secretary

Udaipur: The 'Annual General Meeting' of The Institution of Engineers (India), Udaipur Local Centre, was held with great enthusiasm. The meeting commenced with the outgoing President, Engineer C.P. Jain, welcoming all members and guests. Engineer Purushottam Paliwal presented a report of the activities carried out during the year 2023-2024.

On this occasion, Engineer Purushottam Paliwal assumed the office of President for the term 2024-2026, while Engineer Piyush Javeria took charge as Honorary Secretary. The newly elected executive committee for the years 2024-2026 was also announced. Additionally, a video message containing blessings and good wishes from Dr. G. Ranganathan, President of The Institution of Engineers (India), and Engineer V.B. Singh, the newly elected President, was shared with all members.

The newly elected executive committee for various engineering faculties was also announced, including Dr. Abhay Kumar Mehta, Engineer Shreya Panchal, Engineer Jitendra Menaria, Engineer Nisha Kumawat, Engineer Rajkumar Singh Chauhan, Dr. Ashok Jetawat, Engineer Girish Kumar Joshi, Engineer Prakash Sundaram, Engineer Gopi Kant Tiwari, Engineer Ajit Kumar Jain, Engineer L.T. Lokhandwala, Engineer Mahavir Prasad Jain, Engineer Krishna Kant Sharma, Engineer Lakshmi Narayan Kachhawa, Engineer Ramesh Chandra Purohit, Engineer Hitanshu Kaushal, and Engineer Pawan Kumar Jain. All the newly elected members were welcomed and congratulated.

The event also included a technical talk by Satish Kumar Shrimali, Former Additional Chief Town Planner, Rajasthan Government, who spoke on *"The Role of Smart City Projects in the Development of Udaipur"* and shared his views on World Standards Day. In his address, Shrimali highlighted that smart city projects play a crucial role in improving the quality of life, promoting sustainability, and enhancing urban services by integrating technology and data-driven solutions. Smart cities focus on using technology to improve public services like transportation, water supply, waste management, and energy. He further emphasized that a smart city is characterized by uninterrupted power supply, roads, drainage systems, parking facilities, traffic management, and clean lakes and ponds.

He also suggested that local administration and the Urban Planning Department should involve engineers from the Udaipur Local Centre of The Institution of Engineers (India) in policymaking to develop Udaipur as a smart city. Additionally, he stressed the importance of implementing a robust public transport system in the city.

On the occasion of World Standards Day 2024, the theme "A Shared Vision for a Better World" was adopted, highlighting the role of international standards in supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, special focus was given to SDG 3, which promotes good health and well-being. Organizations like the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) emphasized the importance of health-related standards to improve public health outcomes globally. BIS also marked the event with outreach programs to raise awareness about quality standards, showcasing how standardized practices in health can reduce risks and improve the quality of life in communities.

Engineer Mahendra Kumar Chauhan, President of The Institution of Engineers (India), Jaipur, praised the ongoing activities at the Udaipur Local Centre. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Engineer Piyush Javeria, the newly elected Honorary Secretary.
