Seminar on Workplace Stress and Management

A seminar on the topic of workplace stress and management was held at the Regional Rail Training Institute in Udaipur, benefiting over 900 trainees, as well as officials and staff of the institute. The keynote speaker was Dr. Jitendra Jeengar, Professor and Head of the Psychiatry Department at Gitanjali Medical College.

The principal of the institute, Mr. Jay Prakash, mentioned that Dr. Jeengar provided an in-depth discussion on workplace stress and management. According to Dr. Jeengar, nearly 50% of the staff experience stress at work, while up to 15% suffer from mental health issues, resulting in annual losses amounting to millions globally. The primary causes include a lack of work efficiency, poor time management, disorganized lifestyles, staff shortages, insufficient communication with seniors, and a lack of mutual cooperation. These factors can lead to decreased work performance, reduced concentration, changes in appetite, sleep disturbances, mood swings, diminished motivation, fatigue, feelings of fear or anxiety, decreased self-confidence, irritability, and physical symptoms such as headaches, acidity, stomach pain, restlessness, and chest pain, often pushing individuals towards substance abuse.

To manage stress, Dr. Jeengar advised engaging in regular exercise, practicing yoga and meditation, spending time on hobbies, ensuring adequate sleep, maintaining a nutritious diet, balancing work and personal life, taking short breaks at work, and communicating with friends and family.

The Regional Rail Training Institute in Udaipur integrates regular yoga, physical training, sports, and cultural activities as essential components of its training programs. Additionally, the administration organizes seminars like this periodically to help trained staff better cope with such challenges.
