### Environmental Sustainability Requires Social Co-existence: Prof. Sarangdevot
*Udaipur, – Bhupal Nobles University in Udaipur hosted a symposium on June 3, 2024, as part of the Environmental Awareness Week (June 1-8, 2024). The event saw participation from environmentalists, agricultural scientists, economists, legal experts, bureaucrats, citizens, and representatives from the academic sector. The main speakers were Dr. Nihal Chand Jain, former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Rajasthan; Prof. Ajit Kumar Karnataka, Vice-Chancellor of Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur; and Anant Ganesh Trivedi, founder-patron of Shantipeeth Institute, Udaipur. The symposium was chaired by Col. Prof. Shiv Singh Sarangdevot, Acting President of Bhupal Nobles University and Vice-Chancellor of Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University). The theme of the event was "Environmental Conservation, Protection, and Climate Change."

**Dr. Nihal Chand Jain**:
Dr. Jain emphasized that nature thrives and sustains itself if humans allow it to expand and live. It only needs its own flow to survive, and this stability is maintained when humans remain environmentally friendly and more nature-loving. Both flora and fauna are far removed from human dimensions or discrepancies of color, caste, creed, sect, religion, and gender.
**Anant Ganesh Trivedi**:
Anant Ganesh Trivedi presented a poignant picture of the plight of Udaipur’s hills and lakes, inviting everyone to work together to find a solution. He expressed concern over the natural beauty, which is part of our heritage, being destroyed recklessly. He warned that if the stone quarries continue their operations, the hills, and ancient monuments that have defined the region for centuries, could be decimated.
**Prof. Ajit Kumar Karnataka**:
Prof. Karnataka discussed biodiversity’s capacity to accommodate all but pointed out that human preferences and heritage often struggle to align with nature’s principles of equality. He raised concerns about the decreasing availability of fresh water on Earth. Water scarcity leads to drought, various diseases, natural pollution, and global warming, yet people are not fully aware of the importance of water conservation. He emphasized the urgent need to plant 500 crore (5 billion) new trees.
**Prof. Shiv Singh Sarangdevot**:
Prof. Sarangdevot highlighted that natural physical presence in forests exists without understanding the definitions of pastoralism, capitalism, environmentalism, and socialism. Therefore, social ecology requires social co-existence to bring about healthy environmental sustainability by reconstructing nature’s forces and beautiful forms.

Dr. Mahendra Singh Agaria, Secretary of Bhupal Nobles University, and Managing Director Mohabbat Singh Rathore stressed that this year’s World Environment Day theme is "Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience." Humanity depends on land, yet pollution, climate chaos, and biodiversity destruction are turning healthy land into deserts and thriving ecosystems into dead zones. They called for everyone to plant trees to adorn the Earth.
The event was also attended by GP Soni (Chief Engineer, Irrigation Department), Satish Shrimali (former Additional City Planner), Dr. Shashi Chittora (Dean, Education), Umesh Chandra Sharma (High Court Advocate), Dr. Chetan Singh Chauhan (Principal, BNIPS), Dr. Jayashree Singh (Head, Department of English), Dr. Kamal Singh Rathore (Professor, Pharmacy), Manoj Gandharv, Bharat Kumawat, Rajkumar Menaria, and Dr. Seema Sharma, among others.
