Udaipur, Medical students of Pacific Medical College & Hospital (PMCH), Udaipur, have continued to make their mark in medical research through the prestigious Indian Council of Medical Research – Short-Term Studentship (ICMR-STS) Research Programme. With a total of eight ICMR-STS research projects approved over the past two years, PMCH has emerged as one of the leading medical institutions in Rajasthan in terms of student research participation.
In 2026, research projects submitted by three PMCH students were selected under the ICMR-STS programme. Malvi Agrawal was selected for a project under the guidance of Dr. Ashish Goyal, Department of Community Medicine. Bhumika Agrawal conducted her research under the guidance of Dr. Neeta Sahi, Department of Biochemistry, while Yakin Jain was selected for a project under the mentorship of Dr. Saurabh Goyal, Department of Medicine.
The students developed and submitted their research proposals with the guidance of experienced faculty members before presenting them to the ICMR for evaluation.
PMCH Chairman Rahul Agrawal congratulated the selected students and their faculty mentors, describing their continued success in the national research programme as a matter of pride for the institution. He said the achievement reflects the students’ hard work, dedicated faculty mentorship and the strengthening academic and research environment at PMCH.
PMU President Dr. M.M. Mangal and PMCH Principal Dr. U.S. Parihar also congratulated the selected students and their guides and wished them success in their future academic and research careers.
PMCH ICMR-STS Nodal Officer and Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology, Dr. Rohitash Yadav, said that students at the institution are encouraged to go beyond conventional medical education and develop an understanding of research methodology, scientific thinking and evidence-based medicine from an early stage of their training.
He said students receive continuous guidance in identifying research topics, developing research protocols, collecting and analysing data, and presenting research findings in a scientific manner. Encouraging medical students to take an active interest in research is an important component of PMCH’s academic framework, he added.
According to the institution, five PMCH medical students received approval for ICMR-STS research projects in 2025, while three students were selected in 2026. With eight projects approved over two consecutive years, the achievement highlights the growing emphasis on student-led research and the development of a research-oriented academic culture at PMCH.
The institution said the continued participation and success of its students in the ICMR-STS programme will further encourage young medical professionals to pursue scientific research alongside clinical education.
