Bhilwara – At Sangam India Limited Spinning Unit, the management introduced a reward scheme to encourage workers to maintain regular attendance. The scheme stated that workers who met target efficiency and maintained 25 days of attendance between February 25 and March 31 would be rewarded. On April 2, 2025, workers who met the target efficiency and completed 25 days of attendance were paid their rewards.
However, on the morning of April 3, 2025, at around 7 AM, workers who had reported for duty and those about to leave gathered together. They began demanding rewards, even though their units had not met the target efficiency and they had not completed 25 days of attendance. The workers were reminded that prior notice and personal instructions had been given, stating that only those who met the efficiency targets and completed the required attendance would be eligible for rewards. Despite this explanation, the workers insisted on receiving rewards.
The matter was immediately reported to higher authorities, who arrived at the site to speak with the workers. While the officials were addressing the workers, the situation escalated, and the workers began chanting slogans and creating chaos. Seeing this, a police vehicle from the highway patrol (112) entered the premises. The workers became hostile upon seeing the police, and they began throwing stones and attacking with wooden sticks. The police vehicle was severely damaged, and workers started to vandalize the factory, even attacking the officials. The authorities had to evacuate the officials to safety.
The workers continued their disruptive behavior, entering the offices and breaking glass on the doors. At this point, the administration arrived with a team to restore order and began explaining the situation to the workers in the presence of the factory officials. After much persuasion, the situation was brought under control, and the workers were directed back to their work.
