### Gallstones in the Gallbladder Can Increase Cancer Risk

**Udaipur, Multi-specialty hospital Paras Health successfully treated a 55-year-old woman suffering from gallstones and multiple large common bile duct stones. Due to her diabetes and obesity, she was considered high-risk. Despite these underlying dangers, a team of experienced medical professionals led by Consultant General Surgeon and Laparoscopic Surgeon Dr. Sapan Ashok Jain at Paras Health, Udaipur, performed the treatment successfully. The woman is now leading a normal and healthy life.

The gallbladder is a small organ located on the right side of the abdomen, under the liver. It stores bile, a green-yellow fluid that aids in digestion. Excessive cholesterol in the bile can cause gallstones, leading to problems such as abdominal pain, fever, and vomiting. Sometimes these stones can exit the gallbladder and get lodged in the common bile duct, which helps transport bile from the liver and gallbladder to the small intestine.

The patient arrived at the laparoscopic department of Paras Health, Udaipur, with severe abdominal pain and jaundice. Investigations revealed that she had gallstones and multiple large stones in the common bile duct, along with a liver infection. The patient had also been suffering from diabetes and obesity for many years. Dr. Sapan Ashok Jain stabilized the patient before performing laparoscopic removal of the common bile duct stones. Using laser technology, he successfully removed all stones from the common bile duct and then proceeded to surgically remove the gallstones.

During the operation, Dr. Abizer Hussain, the anesthesiologist, noted that the risks associated with anesthesia were significantly increased due to the patient's diabetes and obesity. However, with careful monitoring and management, anesthesia was safely administered. The entire procedure took 3 hours.

Dr. Sapan Ashok Jain, Consultant General Surgeon and Laparoscopic Surgeon, advised that anyone experiencing symptoms of gallstones should see a doctor immediately. He stated, "Anyone with gallstones should undergo surgery as soon as possible because long-term gallstones in the gallbladder can increase the risk of cancer. Additionally, stones can sometimes exit the gallbladder and get lodged in the bile duct, leading to surgical jaundice and pancreatitis. Timely surgery is crucial to prevent these life-threatening problems."

This case underscores the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of gallstones. Ignoring symptoms like abdominal pain and jaundice can lead to severe and potentially fatal conditions. Paras Health, with its team of expert surgeons, is fully equipped to provide advanced treatment for gallstones and bile duct stones, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients.
