Udaipur. A two-day skill development training program was organized at Devgarh village in Pratapgarh district under the National Agricultural Development Scheme (NADP) project, titled "Excellence Center for Processing of Traditional Crops in Mewar Region." The program, which was conducted by the College of Community and Practical Science at Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, aimed at introducing processing techniques to farmers and women, making them self-reliant. The main topics covered during the training were "Millet Processing and Value Addition" and "Turmeric and Ginger Processing and Value Addition." A total of 65 rural women participated in the program.
Dr. Arvind Verma, Director of Research at the university, stated that the training would generate new employment opportunities for farmers and women. The lead researcher of the project, Dr. Kamla Mahajani, mentioned that the knowledge provided on millet, ginger, and turmeric processing would inspire women to start their own businesses, enabling them to establish small-scale industries.
On the first day of the training, machine operator Ms. Chitrakshi Kashyap demonstrated the use of millet and spice processing machines and provided information on government schemes. Dr. Payal Telesra and Ms. Yogita Paliwal taught techniques for making chocolate from ragi and bajra. On the second day, Ms. Yogita Paliwal trained the participants in making ginger candy, murabba (sweet preserves), and "sanve ke gathiye" (a local sweet), while Dr. Payal Telesra focused on marketing, packaging, and labeling.
An exhibition showcasing millet-based products was also organized during the training, providing participants with information on potential business opportunities. The program concluded by motivating participants to adopt innovations in the processing sector and become self-reliant.
