Matsyaki College Alumni Association Submits Memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister

Udaipur: The Alumni Association of the Matsyaki College, a constituent of MPUAT, met with Rajasthan's Deputy Chief Minister, Premchand Baidya, at his residence in Jaipur and submitted a memorandum demanding the filling of vacant academic and non-academic positions at the college. The memorandum highlighted serious issues related to Rajasthan’s only Fisheries College, which operates under Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur. The delegation informed the Deputy Chief Minister about the current situation, where only two permanent faculty members are present, creating significant problems due to the shortage of faculty in other departments. They emphasized the immediate need for action to address these issues, as the quality of education and research activities were being adversely affected. The Deputy Chief Minister listened attentively and assured the delegation that the state government would intervene and ensure prompt action on the matter.

The memorandum stated that the college was established in 2010 and is accredited by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). However, the college is facing a severe shortage of teachers. At present, there are only two permanent faculty members across the entire college, which is insufficient for teaching and research activities. Due to this shortage, the college has had to halt admissions to higher education courses such as PG and PhD, which is a major setback for students and regional education. The college has previously performed excellently and was recognized by ICAR in 2022. However, the lack of staff as per ICAR’s standards has stalled its growth. Currently, the college only offers undergraduate courses in Fisheries and Aquaculture, but even this is being hampered by the faculty shortage. The Deputy Chief Minister assured that the state government is committed to promoting fish farming and related sectors under the "Prime Minister’s Matsya Sampada Yojana" and assured the students and faculty that the government would prioritize solving this issue. 

In the memorandum, the students of the college collectively raised their concerns at both political and administrative levels to ensure appropriate measures are taken for the college's survival and development. This initiative will not only improve the teaching and research quality at the college but will also foster significant growth in the fisheries sector in Rajasthan. It will provide the college with a new direction and open doors to a brighter future for students and farmers alike. The members of the College Alumni Association (COFUAA) expressed their gratitude for the Deputy Chief Minister’s positive response and hoped that the college would soon function at its full potential. The memorandum submission was attended by Joint Secretary of the Alumni Association, Nayan Chauhan, Kavindra, and several other students.
