Udaipur : A one-day training program on Natural Farming was organized at the Directorate of Research, Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur. Officials from National Seeds Corporation units in Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Jaitsar, and Suratgarh participated in the event.

Inaugurating the program, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ajit Kumar Karnatak emphasized that the goal of natural farming is to produce completely chemical-free food grains. He stated that seeds are the foundation of any type of farming, and naturally produced seeds are essential for natural farming.

Dr. Karnatak shared that while the Green Revolution increased production, the excessive use of chemicals had adverse effects on both nature and human health. “Now is the time to reduce and ultimately eliminate chemical influence on food and the environment,” he said. He also remarked, “Working in harmony with nature is our culture; working against it leads to distortion.” He stressed the need to develop natural farming into a simple, acceptable method for farmers by adding new dimensions.

Dr. Shanti Kumar Sharma, Assistant Director General (HRM), New Delhi, was the special guest. He addressed common misconceptions about natural farming and emphasized the importance of research-based awareness. He stated that the concept of natural farming is not new, but it’s time to promote and implement it effectively in society. Failing to adopt chemical-free farming now could have disastrous consequences for the environment, he warned.

Dr. Arvind Verma, Director of Research, informed that Udaipur has been selected for such national-level training due to its extensive research in organic and natural farming. The training includes lectures and hands-on sessions, aiming to strengthen the natural seed production chain.

Training coordinator Dr. Ravikant Sharma presented the program structure and extended a vote of thanks to all dignitaries.
