Udaipur: A two-day training program on the legal provisions and management of the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act (PESA) 1996 concluded in Udaipur, with the District Chief, Mrs. Mamta Kunwar, attending as the chief guest. The training saw the participation of development officers, additional development officers, NGO representatives, district council members, Panchayat Samiti members, and other officials from Udaipur, Salumber, Chittorgarh, and Pratapgarh districts.
In her address, District Chief Mrs. Mamta Kunwar provided a detailed overview of the PESA Act and emphasized its effective implementation on the ground. She highlighted the importance of Gram Sabhas and Peace Committees under the Act, explaining that in tribal areas, the formation of a 20-member Peace Committee can help create a peaceful and secure environment in villages, resolving disputes and ensuring affordable and accessible justice for the community. She also mentioned that the Act grants significant powers to strengthen Gram Sabhas at the revenue village level, but effective collaboration and awareness efforts are necessary to bring about change in rural areas.
Master Trainer Banshilal Katara elaborated on the PESA Act, while Dr. Bharat Kumar Shrimali, Sarfaraz Sheikh, Shyamlal Menaria, ADEO TAD Amrita Dadhich, Rajesh Nayak, and others contributed to the discussion. District Council members Kaluram, Dr. Pushpa Sharma, and Keshavlal also shared their thoughts. The session was moderated by Aslam.
