Action Against Heavy Vehicles Not Paying Taxes Continues

Udaipur: The Transport Department has intensified action against heavy vehicles that have failed to pay road tax, continuing vehicle seizures towards the end of March. On Wednesday, 35 vehicles were confiscated for not clearing their dues. So far, a total of 150 vehicles have been seized, and a penalty amount of ₹3.50 crore has been recovered.

Regional Transport Officer Gyandev Vishwakarma stated that the department’s officials and staff have geared up to ensure 100% revenue collection to meet the revenue targets allocated by the state government for the financial year 2024-25. In an ongoing effort, 4200 vehicle owners have been found guilty of violating permit conditions, and under section 86 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, their permits have been suspended. These owners have been issued notices to appear at the RTO office on March 24.

Vishwakarma further informed that Udaipur’s transport division was allocated a revenue target of ₹762 crore for the current fiscal year, with ₹602 crore already collected. Among districts, Salumber ranks first in revenue collection, followed by Banswara.

In the Udaipur Transport Division, there are a total of 14,492 heavy vehicles. To date, ₹24 crore has been collected from 6,833 vehicles. However, 7,660 heavy vehicles have not paid their dues, and tax recovery, along with interest and penalties, is underway. Under the leadership of Additional RTO Nanji Ram Gulser and DTO Nitin Bohra, 12,310 vehicles have been fined, and over 150 vehicles have been seized, generating ₹3.50 crore in penalties. Similar actions are being carried out by district transport officers in Banswara, Dungarpur, Rajsamand, and Salumber districts with departmental flying squads working around the clock.
