The Purpose of Education Should Be Thoughtfulness and Values

Professor Dev Swaroop, Vice Chancellor of Baba Amte Divyang University, Jaipur, emphasized that education should not only be a means of professional success but must also serve as a foundation for thoughtfulness and values. He was addressing the gathering as the chief guest on the occasion of the 39th foundation day of Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth Deemed University.

Professor Swaroop, an eminent Indian educational administrator and former Vice Chancellor of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Law University, Jaipur, mentioned that his role in the formation of the National Education Policy was a significant opportunity and challenge. He highlighted that education has always been the basis for societal development, citing Mahatma Gandhi's establishment of Gujarat Vidyapeeth to demonstrate the importance of education. In a similar vein, Rajasthan Vidyapeeth was founded in 1937 to preserve education and culture.

He also noted that today, Indian students, especially women, are showcasing their exceptional talents on the global stage. The credit for bringing Rajasthan Vidyapeeth in line with the UGC and National Education Policy standards goes to Professor Sarang Devot.

Professor Swaroop emphasized that the objective of education has shifted from personality development to being job-oriented, leading to a gap between education and thoughtfulness. This shift has contributed to the rising tendency for criminal behavior among educated youth, which is a matter of serious concern.

He concluded by stating that a teacher’s responsibility is not only to impart knowledge but also to be an example of values, inspiring students through their own actions. Education should become a means of fostering self-reliance and confidence, which is the true purpose of education.
