###MP Chunnilal Garasia Raises Issue of Fund Allocation for Jal Jeevan Mission in Rajya Sabha*

**Udaipur,  Rajya Sabha MP Chunnilal Garasia brought up the issue of fund allocation to gram panchayats under the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme in the Rajya Sabha through an unstarred question.

MP Chunnilal Garasia questioned the Minister of Jal Shakti, through unstarred question number 100, whether the government has spent funds under the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme, and if so, requested details of the funds spent under the Har Ghar Nal Yojana of the Jal Jeevan Mission in the last five years, including a state/union territory-wise breakdown with specific reference to Rajasthan. He also inquired about the number of gram panchayats in Rajasthan that have been provided funds under this scheme and the timeline for allocation of funds to the remaining gram panchayats.

In response, Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Mr. V. Somanna, stated that the Government of India is committed to ensuring the provision of safe and adequate drinking water supply through taps to all rural households on a regular and long-term basis. To achieve this, the Government of India launched the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in August 2019, in collaboration with the states, including Rajasthan. Water is a state subject, and thus, the primary responsibility for planning and implementing piped water supply schemes to provide tap water to rural households lies with the respective state/union territory. The Government of India assists the states by providing technical and financial support under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Since the launch of the Jal Jeevan Mission, significant progress has been made in extending tap water facilities to rural households. At the beginning of the mission in August 2019, only 3.23 crore rural households had tap water connections. As of July 8, 2024, approximately 11.75 crore more rural households have been provided with tap water connections under JJM, bringing the total to around 14.98 crore (77.58 percent) rural households out of the estimated 19.32 crore rural households in the country.

Details of fund allocation, funds drawn, and reported expenditure under JJM for the last five years (2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24) state/union territory-wise, including Rajasthan, were provided. Under JJM, funds are directly released to states/union territories. The Government of India does not maintain district-wise or gram panchayat-wise allocation/disbursement details. For the current financial year 2024-25, an amount of Rs. 1,659.22 crore has been released to the Government of Rajasthan so far.
