Workshop on Setting Up EV Charging Stations Held in Udaipur

Udaipur: The Institution of Engineers (India), Udaipur Local Centre, organized a workshop on the topic **"Setting Up EV Charging Stations in India."**

The event began with a welcome address by the Centre’s Chairman, Engineer Purushottam Paliwal, who shared his thoughts on the growing necessity of establishing EV charging infrastructure across the country. He emphasized that as India moves towards a greener and more sustainable future, the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs) is accelerating. A key component of this transformation is the widespread installation of EV charging stations.

Honorary Secretary of the Udaipur Local Centre, Engineer Piyush Javeria, highlighted the importance of creating a roadmap for setting up EV charging stations in order to preserve the environment and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. He also discussed the various challenges and opportunities involved in implementing this green initiative.

The workshop's keynote speaker, Engineer Neha Sakka, Junior Engineer (Electrical) from Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam, explained the essential requirements for establishing EV charging stations, including land, chargers, EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment), and uninterrupted power supply. She elaborated on various aspects such as conductive charging systems, charging management systems, and Charging Station Operator CMS (Central Management Systems).

Engineer Sakka noted that setting up and operating an EV charging station is a **license-free activity**, and any organization is free to develop the necessary infrastructure. She also discussed solar-powered EVCS (Electric Vehicle Charging Stations), renewable and traditional energy sources, and connections to the electricity grid.

She referred to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs' guidelines, stating that newly constructed shopping malls, housing societies, and residential projects in urban areas must now allocate **20% of parking spaces for EVs.**

Another speaker, Jaideep Singh Shaktawat, CEO of *YoCharge*, shared that EVs can be owned by individuals or fleet operators. He pointed out that currently, **80% of EV charging** is taking place at homes, workplaces, institutions, and residential societies, while **20%** happens at midway locations and fuel stations.

He elaborated on the CMS (Central Management System), which integrates with Android and iOS apps and supports real-time monitoring, remote control, hardware diagnostics, charging and energy management, load balancing, solar integration, payment processing, revenue sharing, and billing.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Honorary Secretary Engineer Piyush Javeria.
