Udaipur: The Udaipur district Congress committees held a joint meeting today to protest against the arbitrary restructuring, boundary expansions, and redistricting of municipal bodies and Panchayati Raj institutions carried out by the Rajasthan government. The meeting, organized by the Udaipur Rural District Congress Committee, was attended by senior leaders, including Indira Meena, the party’s district in-charge from Bamanwas, and Kachru Lal Choudhary, the district president.
Indira Meena strongly criticized the "Parchi Sarkar" (ticket-based government), accusing the state government of conducting these changes without public consent and in violation of laws. She claimed that the changes in municipal boundaries and Panchayati Raj institutions were politically motivated, with the government favoring areas supporting the BJP and RSS. She said the government’s actions were aimed at weakening the Congress in local bodies, but Congress would not allow this and would fight back on the streets if necessary.
Kachru Lal Choudhary raised concerns about the government’s undemocratic practices, particularly the delay in holding local elections under the guise of "One State, One Election." He said that by postponing the elections, the state government violated constitutional norms and failed to provide a clear roadmap for future elections. He warned that the people of Rajasthan would not forgive this unconstitutional approach.
The Congress leaders also addressed concerns about the committee formed by the state government to handle the boundary changes, noting that the committee had yet to hold a meeting. They pledged to raise objections about these changes and to ensure that all concerns of the public were communicated to the authorities. The meeting concluded with a call for the Congress to continue raising its voice against these unjust practices and prepare for any necessary struggle.
In a parallel meeting held by the Udaipur City District Congress Committee, local leaders, including Fateh Singh Rathore, announced the formation of a committee to gather objections from Congress workers regarding boundary changes in the Udaipur Municipal Corporation. Rathore emphasized that the Congress would not allow illegal restructuring and would be prepared to take to the streets in protest.
The meeting was attended by several prominent Congress leaders and workers, including former MLA Trilok Purbiya, block presidents, and key party officials. The gathering was led by Gajendra Kothari, who thanked the attendees for their participation.
