Udaipur: Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, stated that over the past decade, India’s cultural influence has been rapidly establishing itself worldwide and becoming increasingly popular. He emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian culture has emerged prominently on the global stage. Furthermore, India has also established itself as a major economic and strategic power. He mentioned that cultural economy is gaining recognition and is expected to make a significant contribution to the formal economy in the near future.
He made these remarks while addressing hundreds of art lovers at the world-renowned Shilpgram Festival, organized by the Western Regional Cultural Center, Udaipur, under the Ministry of Culture, at Shilpgram on Sunday. Also present at the event were Member of Parliament Munnalal Ravat, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Culture Amita Prasad, and Director of the Western Regional Cultural Center, Udaipur, Furkan Khan.
Shri Shekhawat stated that Rajasthan is a state rich in multi-dimensional culture. He highlighted the sacrifices of Pannadhay, the Sheeshdan of Hadi Rani, and the Jauhar of Rani Padmini, emphasizing the valor and cultural heritage of Mewar. He also mentioned the unique blend of tribal culture in the region and praised the preservation of cultural heritage in the desert areas, despite challenges like drought and scarcity.
Earlier, Amita Prasad, Joint Secretary of the Government of India, welcomed Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Furkan Khan, and Munnalal Ravat. Director Furkan Khan thanked the guests and visitors, providing information about the Shilpgram Festival. He also encouraged the audience to buy artisan products.
**Festival Benefiting Both Artisans and the General Public**
Union Culture Minister Shri Shekhawat commented that this annual 10-day festival, organized every year, benefits artisans from various states by allowing them to showcase their culture and products. Additionally, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the diverse cultures, cuisines, and customs of different regions of India, as well as to view and purchase handicrafts. He congratulated Furkan Khan and the entire team of the Western Regional Cultural Center for organizing the successful event and extended his best wishes for future editions. He also announced plans to create a cultural calendar to ensure that Shilpgram hosts cultural activities year-round.
**Chari, Rathwa, and Soni Masks Dazzle the Audience**
On Sunday evening, the Mukta Akashi stage was filled with music and dance performances that captivated the audience. The Rajasthani Chari dance received great applause, while the Gujarat-based sword dance, *Talwar Ras*, which depicted the bravery of freedom fighters, thrilled the crowd. The *Gavri* dance drama, based on the mythological story of Mahadev and Bhasmasur, was a major hit and earned loud applause. The *Kutchhi* devotional singing filled the atmosphere with bhakti (devotion), while the choreography of the *Rathwa* tribal dance from Gujarat also won much admiration from the audience. Maharashtra’s *Soni Mask* folk dance showcased expressive movements by the dancers, which was well appreciated by all.
**'Hivda Re Hook' Launched, Local Talents Shine**
The 'Hivda Re Hook' program kicked off on Sunday. Held at the Banjara stage, this event gives every music lover the opportunity to showcase their talents. Whether through folk songs or performances at home or on apps, participants of all ages can share their heartfelt emotions and connect with the audience. This program will run daily until December 29, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Along with the performances, a cultural quiz is being held, where art enthusiasts can win 'Shilpgram Memento' for answering questions correctly.
