Vow to Save and Educate Daughters: 27 Couples of Khatik Community Unite in a Dowry-Free Mass Wedding

Udaipur, In a historic initiative, 27 couples from the Khatik community tied the knot in a dowry-free mass wedding, pledging an eighth vow to save and educate daughters. Organized by the Khatik Samaj National Organization, this first-ever mass wedding set an example by completely eliminating dowry and unnecessary extravagance.


A unique highlight of the event was a stamp agreement signed by the newlyweds, ensuring they would not approach the police or court for divorce or disputes for the next 30 years. This remarkable step has been widely appreciated across communities.


A Grand Celebration of Simplicity and Tradition

Held at Fateh School Ground, the wedding featured 27 sacred fire altars, where 27 priests solemnized the marriages. The grand wedding procession, which began from Hathipole Chauraha, witnessed hundreds of men and women from the community participating with enthusiasm. Grooms arrived on horseback, while brides rode in carriages, adding to the festive spirit.

The city welcomed the wedding procession with floral showers, as it passed through Delhi Gate, Bapu Bazaar, and Surajpole, before reaching the venue. Women performed the Ghoomar dance, youth rejoiced with drums and bands, and even elderly guests joined the celebrations.

Community Leaders Applaud the Initiative

National President Akash Bagdi highlighted the success of this mass wedding, made possible with the support of community philanthropists. He expressed gratitude to all attendees and emphasized how this event marked a historic step towards eradicating dowry and promoting women's empowerment.

Several dignitaries, including social worker Dr. Vinod Pandey and Nirmal Kumar Pandit, graced the occasion. The event also saw participation from community members across Udaipur, Rajsamand, Salumber, Bhilwara, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh.

Women also played a key role, with leaders like State President Tulsi Devi, General Secretary Kesari Bai Nimawat, Pramila Bagdi, and Vice President Kanchan Bai adding to the vibrancy of the event. The ceremony was hosted by anchor Madhuri Sharma.

In recognition of the media's role, 20 journalists were honored during the event.

Bapu Bazaar’s Grand Welcome for Akash Bagdi

At Bapu Bazaar, the Mewar Shakti Kalyan Trust, led by Basanti Devi Vaishnav, honored Akash Bagdi for his efforts in promoting the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao campaign. He was welcomed with a floral shower, a turban ceremony, and special accolades. Similar grand receptions took place at Delhi Gate and Surajpole.

This event has set a new benchmark in social reform, demonstrating that tradition and progress can go hand in hand, making it a landmark moment in community-driven change.
