Udaipur, The oath ceremony of the newly elected executive body of the Journalist Association of Rajasthan (JAR), Udaipur unit, was held on Friday with dignity and enthusiasm. Presiding over the event, Secretary of the Udaipur District Legal Services Authority and Additional District Judge (ADJ) Kuldeep Sharma emphasized that media, being the fourth pillar of democracy, shares a critical responsibility in supporting victims and ensuring justice when institutions fail to do so. He added that the Legal Services Authority also works in this direction with the attention of the government.
Addressing the gathering after administering the oath to the new office bearers, ADJ Sharma remarked that living in the land of Mewar is a matter of pride. He called upon journalists to rise above self-interest and continue voicing the concerns of the oppressed in the modern age where empathy is diminishing.
Chief Guest and Udaipur MLA Tarachand Jain appreciated the role of journalists as the eyes and voice of society. He urged them to report accurate and constructive news, cautioning that misleading stories damage both journalism and public trust. “Only fair and impartial reporting will ensure the survival of journalism,” he added.
JAR State President Sanjay Saini highlighted the government’s initiatives for journalists, including the inclusion of accredited journalists under the RGHS medical scheme and financial aid up to ₹3 lakh for non-accredited journalists. He also informed about the new scholarship scheme for children of accredited journalists and JAR’s ongoing efforts for rural journalists' housing and accreditation.
Former State President and State Coordinator Rakesh Kumar Sharma congratulated the new team and assured full cooperation from the state level. He called for enhanced government support for journalists, especially in terms of safety and medical assistance, stating that despite low pay and high risk, journalists continue to raise public issues diligently. He also appealed to ADJ Sharma to support victimized journalists through the Legal Services Authority.
The ceremony began with a two-minute silence to pay tribute to martyrs of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. ADJ Sharma administered the oath to JAR Udaipur President Rakesh Sharma Rajdeep and the new executive team. Outstanding journalists were also honored for their contributions to the field.
Distinguished guests including former State President Subhash Sharma, Patron Naresh Sharma, State Treasurer Kaushal Mundra, State Secretary Rajesh Verma, Vice President Nanalal Acharya, and newly elected Chittorgarh President Manoj Soni graced the event.
