It's undeniable that religion – the oldest constitution composed by our human society bears a definite capacity to transform the world. In a number of ways, it has broken us – war, discriminations, evil practices, exclusion. There again, it has brought reforms, liberation, unity and brotherhood, greatest of its kind. At one side, it is a tool to rule over the people and at another part, it has reconstructed our society by bridging up distances, breaking the wall of separation. Plainly stated, it has refined our world.
Earliest dates of records, when governance emerged as a system to rule over the people, it included religion within its code of commands just like an expandable rubber band. Leaders, law makers have used it period after period either to restrain or release their subjects. India's history of rulers are prominent examples of this legacy. Be it the Mauryas, Sultans, Mughals or Britishers, religion, although not formally regarded as a political device was integral to form norms, extend the rules and set control over the people. And the results were manifold. Religion, as it is directly connected with people's sentiments and beliefs, brought revolts, orthodoxy or else, progressed ahead with massive transformations.
It is this delicate and diverse human sentiment where religion strikes as hard as it can be when applied as a suppressive command, a tool of power show. Religion, when it becomes a rigid rule is where people get divided, separated, anguished. The dark truth exists still now and sadly enough is being fuelled by the contemporary geopolitics – the recent global command format. Religious divides, that should be corrected mended are kept bare, open to exploitation and much neglected. Nations, in the name of religions are being excluded, threatened and tormented. Rule of religion is a deadly mistake that is being repeated again. Quite openly, policy makers from around the world are staying silent, reluctant or are participating in this destructive play. What it brings is not a reform so far – but Terrorism.
Terrorism, a complete fallacy of extremists that they are thinking it as their weapon of grabbing dominance, power. It is only working as a kind of pathogen confirming their presence causing cuts and bruises in the society, killing innocent people, ruining their own land. People are fleeing out of terror affected areas, terror attacks are the trending playing cards of blame game. Would it be a real disease, long ago it would have been cleansed away. Since it is a human act, like all other crimes that are bred, terrorism too is spared. Then, what about the agenda of global peace-keeping, collaboration and inclusion? Is the world that is at the crisis of hunger, poverty, habitat loss and many other inevitable losses gone blind? Or they are counting the divine time to come when some messiah will be borne to liberate them out? Isn't there anyone to think about harmony, integrity and tolerance?
