New Delhi: Bhagat Singh Lohagarh, Director (O&M) of Palace on Wheels, was honored at the Annual General Assembly of the Global Trade and Technology Council (India), held at Hotel Radisson in New Delhi. The recognition came as Palace on Wheels secured the top spot in the Condé Nast Luxury Train Survey, being named the world’s best luxury tourist train this year. Several ambassadors from various countries attended the ceremony.

Dr. Gaurav Gupta, Founding Director of the Global Trade and Technology Council (India), along with ambassadors, presented the award to Bhagat Singh Lohagarh.

On this occasion, Lohagarh, Director of the O&M Company managing Palace on Wheels, shared that this super luxury royal train of Rajasthan, jointly operated by Indian Railways and Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) since 1982, has claimed the first position in the Condé Nast Luxury Train Survey this year. Last year, Palace on Wheels was ranked second, but the improvements in amenities, renovation, and beautification efforts helped it rise to the top.

He further explained that the Palace on Wheels earned this honor through the Condé Nast Readers' Choice Awards 2024, based on a global survey. The survey included the top 20 luxury tourist trains worldwide, with three Indian trains making it to the top 13. Golden Chariot secured the 11th spot, while the IRCTC-operated Maharaja Express ranked 13th.

Lohagarh noted that the Palace on Wheels covers the journey through Rajasthan and Agra, Uttar Pradesh, in just seven days. By road, this journey would take three times as long. Departing from New Delhi every Wednesday, the train takes tourists to Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, and Bharatpur in Rajasthan, as well as Agra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, before returning to New Delhi.

At the event, Pradeep Bohra from Royal Train "Rajmahal on Wheels" stated that, under the supervision of RTDC, world-class amenities have been developed on this luxurious train. These features have garnered tremendous responses from tourists. Over its 42-year golden journey, the train has set several milestones.
