President Droupadi Murmu's Meaningful Message from Mount Abu on Gandhi Jayanti and the Beginning of Navratri

India's first tribal woman president, Droupadi Murmu, shares a deep spiritual connection with Rajasthan, particularly with the Brahma Kumaris Spiritual University in Mount Abu, a bond that has existed for years, long before she assumed the presidency. President Murmu has been visiting Mount Abu regularly.

Over the past two days, President Murmu was on an official tour of southern Rajasthan. She arrived in Mount Abu after participating in the convocation ceremony at Mohan Lal Sukhadia University in Udaipur. This marked her second visit to the Brahma Kumaris Spiritual University since becoming president, following a prior visit in 2023 and another during the Value Education Festival in February 2020.

Murmu first visited the institute 13 years ago and became associated with the Brahma Kumaris. Over time, her relationship with the institution deepened, and she learned Raj Yoga to alleviate stress. She has since participated in numerous programs hosted by the organization. After losing her husband, two sons, mother, and brother within six years from 2009 to 2015, she faced tremendous personal struggles. During this challenging period, the meditation techniques from the Brahma Kumaris provided her solace and helped restore her confidence, allowing her to reframe her outlook on life and immerse herself in spiritual reflection.

On October 4, 2024, following Gandhi Jayanti, President Droupadi Murmu attended a global summit at her spiritual abode in Mount Abu, organized by the Brahma Kumaris. The theme of the summit was "A Clean and Healthy Society through Spirituality," with the Governor of Rajasthan, Haribhai Bagde, also in attendance.

In her inaugural address, President Murmu emphasized that spirituality empowers not just personal lives but also addresses societal and global issues. "When we recognize our inner purity, we can contribute to establishing a healthy and peaceful society," she stated. She highlighted that a clean and healthy soul naturally leads to goodness. Spending time with senior Brahma Kumaris officials, she noted that spirituality involves recognizing one’s inner strength and fostering purity in actions and thoughts. 

“Purity of thought is the path to balance and peace in life,” she added. She stressed the significance of cleanliness, which is celebrated across traditions, urging that purity must extend beyond the physical to our thoughts and actions. Emotional and mental cleanliness is crucial for shaping our behavior. “Before forming opinions about others, we should reflect within ourselves and empathize by putting ourselves in their shoes,” she advised.

The president also noted the government's initiative to promote organic farming over chemical fertilizers, emphasizing that our food shapes our minds. 

“India is the land of saints and ascetics, and our culture emphasizes personal development, purity of life, and thought. Our culture is based on the principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,’ wishing well for all,” she said. She acknowledged the significant contribution of the Brahma Kumaris towards global peace.

Before departing for Delhi, President Murmu visited the Manjhar Dham, located in the hills along the Gujarat border, known for its connection to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, and participated in a program to present awards for indigenous communities. The event was attended by Rajasthan's Governor Haribhai Bagde and Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.

The President's message on the occasion of Navratri is expected to serve as a new milestone for a world standing at the threshold of conflict, guiding both current and future generations.
