Jaipur |BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri's controversial remark about Priyanka Gandhi has sparked a political storm. During the Delhi Assembly election campaign, Bidhuri made objectionable comments about Priyanka Gandhi and Delhi leader Atishi Marlena. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has sharply criticized the statement.
What Did Ramesh Bidhuri Say?
In a viral video from the campaign, Bidhuri said, “Lalu Yadav once said he would make Bihar's roads as smooth as Hema Malini's cheeks. I promise to make the roads in Kalkaji as smooth as Priyanka Gandhi's cheeks.”
This remark has drawn fierce criticism from Congress and other opposition parties.
Gehlot's Reaction
Ashok Gehlot condemned the remark, calling it disrespectful to women and said, “Statements like this tarnish the dignity of our politics. Bidhuri's words are not only hateful but also reflect BJP's mindset towards women. BJP should have taken strict action against him, but their silence is both disheartening and alarming.”
Targeting BJP
Gehlot questioned BJP's silence on the issue, accusing the party of relying solely on polarization politics. He said, “It is the responsibility of all leaders to ensure respect for women. However, BJP's inaction shows that they do not value women’s dignity. The Prime Minister and Home Minister should take immediate action against such remarks. Failing to do so will harm social harmony and national unity.”
Congress Continues to Protest
Congress and other opposition leaders have strongly criticized the BJP, accusing them of a misogynistic mindset. Sachin Pilot also condemned Bidhuri’s statement, saying it highlights BJP’s insensitivity towards women.
Rising Political Tension
Bidhuri’s remark has further escalated political tensions during the election season. It remains to be seen how the BJP addresses the growing outrage.
