Tripartite MOU signed, Rajasthan to receive Yamuna wate

*New Delhi, In the presence of Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Minister of Jal Shakti Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and Haryana Chief Minister Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, a tripartite MOU was signed on Saturday in New Delhi. Under this MOU between the Central Government, Haryana, and Rajasthan, consensus was reached to create a DPR (Detailed Project Report) for the construction of pipelines in the flow system of the Yamuna river from Tajewala Headworks to benefit three districts of the state. After the completion of this project, Rajasthan will receive water from the Yamuna river through the Tajewala Headworks, addressing the drinking water issues in the Sikar, Churu, and Jhunjhunu districts.

After the MOU, Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma mentioned that the project would make Yamuna river water available to the three districts of the state through underground pipelines. He stated that this initiative would be beneficial for both states.

Expressing satisfaction with the agreement, Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma stated that due to the lack of attention from the previous government, this project had been pending for quite some time. With the implementation of this plan, Rajasthan will receive its share of water from Tajewala Headworks, and the drinking water issues in the Shekhawati region's three districts - Sikar, Churu, and Jhunjhunu - will be resolved. He expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister of Haryana and the Minister of Jal Shakti for their efforts in favor of Rajasthan in this MOU.

It is noteworthy that as per the agreement on Yamuna water signed in May 1994, Rajasthan is allocated 1917 cusecs of water during the monsoon from Tajewala Headworks in Haryana. Currently, there is no carrier system available for Rajasthan from Tajewala Headworks. The Rajasthan government sent an MOU to Haryana for bringing water through the canal system in 2017, but the consent of the Haryana government could not be obtained. This issue has been consistently discussed in various inter-state meetings, including the Upper Yamuna Review Committee, over the past 30 years.

Now, with the joint efforts of Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma and Union Minister of Jal Shakti Shri Shekhawat, an MOU has been made for the first phase of creating a DPR for the allocation of water from Tajewala Head to Rajasthan for drinking water use. The Secretary of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Ms. Debasree Mukherjee, along with additional Chief Secretary Jal Sansthan of Rajasthan, Mr. Abhay Kumar, and Commissioner and Principal Secretary Jal Sansthan of Haryana, Mr. Pankaj Agrawal, signed the MOU on Saturday.

On this occasion, senior officials from the Rajasthan government, Haryana government, and the Central Ministry of Water Power were also present.
