Veteran Indian actor, director, lyricist, and screenwriter Manoj Kumar, fondly known as Bharat Kumar, passed away at the age of 87 in the early hours of April 4 at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. His demise has left the entire Indian film industry in mourning.
Renowned for his patriotic films, Manoj Kumar was honored with several prestigious awards including the Padma Shri and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. He began his film career in 1957 with Fashion and gained recognition with his lead role in Kaanch Ki Gudiya (1961).
Some of his most iconic films include Shaheed (1965), Upkar (1967), Poorab Aur Paschim (1970), Roti Kapda Aur Makaan (1974), and Kranti (1981). His works, infused with nationalism and social messages, left a deep impact on Indian cinema.
Though he is no longer with us, his legacy will continue to inspire generations of cine lovers.
