Bringing TRANSformation through Art

Lakshami Nappoo Hall in Matunga, Mumbai, came alive with vibrant colours as Raynah Hazari, a student of standard IX, brought together 50 members of the transgender community to foster a more inclusive environment and drive home the concept of parity in society. Mentored by artist Satyendra Rane and ably supported by non-profit organisations Sahayog Art Foundation, Aabha and Alert Citizen Forum, members of the trans community enthusiastically walked in early on a Sunday monsoon morning to engage in this artistic endeavour that filled colours into their otherwise ‘Black-and-White’ lives! Titled ‘Falak’, signifying borderless skies, the event was graced by well-known trans fashion designer Saisha Shinde who readily lent her support to the initiative. The event also saw in attendance artist Satyendra Rane, social activist Niranjan Aher, Tanmay Gope (Ex-President, Rotary Club of Chandivali Mumbai) among many others who championed the cause.

Lauding the initiative, Saisha Shinde said that she has known Raynah Hazari and family since a long time and is elated that a girl so young has taken on an initiative of this scale! Actively painting on umbrellas alongside the participants, the ace fashion designer urged that "respect, dignity and social acceptance" is what the transgender community is actually looking for.

Expressed Sreedevi Londhe, a transgender activist and participant, “The event ‘Falak’ by Raynah is a beautifully curated one… It’s the rainy season and what could be more beautiful than painting on umbrellas! I am elated that through this platform we will get an opportunity to showcase our talents to the world at large. I urge to the society that if only people can look at us beyond our gender and not judge us for the same; it will help bring parity in society. Events like this help to encourage and motivate us and fill us with hopes for ek nayi seher (a new dawn).”

Added Raynah Hazari, “Art is not just about creating visually striking pieces — it’s chiefly about conveying emotions, telling stories, and most importantly, making an impact. This is just a stepping stone; I am hoping to help them secure employment through the medium of Art in the future.”
